Major Gameplay Update!

Post by Vontre »

Hello everyone! Thank you for bearing with us as we rapidly iterate on the game during Early Access. We know that frequent changes can be disruptive to players, so with this patch we are including a special gift. Through July you can use the promo code squirrels to receive 5 free card packs!

We've just deployed a very substantial update to overall cards and mechanics to improve the overall state of play and address some concerns the dev team has with certain gameplay. We are very pleased to bring these updates to the playerbase and see how they work out. The full patch note is very large, so check our community discord for full details! Remember, any cards that are NOT given out for free to new players, and were changed, can be refunded for full shards if you so desire. Be sure to enter your promo code in the shop for your free card packs!

Final Flash!

Post by Vontre »

So we are very impressed by how quickly the playerbase broke this card! It only took what... 30 minutes? You guys are good! We expected its randomness to be an impediment to building reliable decks around the card, but it's just too strong. And what's more, we intend for this card to be easy to play for casual players, so its performance being so wildly different based on deck building prowess is not ideal. We will be rapidly changing this card to something else, probably that casts from the general random pool instead of your deck. Expect this update to be deployed sometime very soon.

Battle Pass Changes For Season 2

Post by Vontre »

Hey everyone! Season 2 of our Cards and Castles 2 is almost upon us, and we wanted to inform players of significant upcoming changes to the Battle Pass when it switches over. For our season 1 battle pass, we wanted to err on the side of ease and generosity rather than risk turning players off by coming out the gate too difficult and stingy. Without any live playtesting data to measure against, our mathematical models could only do so much. We are pleased that the battle pass was not too hard, but it is clear that we overshot the mark quite a bit, and so now it’s time to correct back in the other direction. Here are a few of the things we’ll be changing for season 2:

1. Many players have been complaining that the Battle Pass is far too fast to complete. We agree and will be increasing the amount of exp per level from 750 to 1000. This simple adjustment should cause a more even increase in levels over the course of the season, as new seasonal quests unlock each week.

2. We realized that the premium tier doesn’t really look all that great compared to the free tier, and on some levels is even outright worse. Additionally the free tier is a bit more generous than needed. Overall sales of the premium tier were much lower than expected. We are moving more of the overall value of battle pass to the premium tier, increasing its rewards and making it much better.

3. Currency dynamics with the new player bundles resulted in players being able to get a Battle Pass for cheaper than we intended. However, we do want the Welcome Bundle to contain a large amount of silver so that players can spend it as they wish. To solve this, we are changing the price of the premium battle pass tier to 2000 silver. HOWEVER, the premium track now has 1000 silver worth of rewards included, so that players can earn a substantial amount of their money back for the next season.

Additionally, a bit of exciting news, we are releasing an exclusive new card in the season 2 battle pass! This card will be available in BOTH the free AND premium pass, but will unlock earlier in the premium pass. While we aren’t guaranteeing that every season pass will include a new card release, we felt it was appropriate this time as we still have a ways to go before a larger set of cards will come out. (Clarification, this card will then become craftable in season 3, but will be exclusive to the battle pass for the duration of season 2)

Minor Balance Changes

Post by Vontre »

Vileroth can no longer gain Berserk. Bonus attributes for Crusaders and Druids have been changed. Note that this mechanic was violating our general prohibition on a unit having both immediate attacks and chain lightning.
Kunoichi: Stats reduced to 3/2.
Moooncaster: Stats reduced to 2/1.
Kage: Stats changed to 2/4. Ability now only deals 4 damage.
Spectral Rider: HP reduced to 4.
Living Vines: HP reduced to 5.

Battle Pass Acceleration

Post by Vontre »

Hey everyone, after reviewing player response to the new battle pass format, we believe there's still a lot of room for improvement, and we will be making heavy adjustments to the next season's battle pass. To accelerate this testing process during Early Access, we have manually shortened both the duration and EXP of the current battle pass so that we do not have to wait a full 2 months to try a new one. EXP requirements have been reduced by 60%, and the battle pass now has 15 days remaining. Overall we are planning to shift to a 30 day pass instead of the new 60 day pass, at a different price point and with different rewards. Thank you for bearing with us as we get things sorted out during Early Access!

(Note, if you are currently playing, you may need to restart your game client for the battle pass exp change to be visible)

Upcoming Economy Upgrades

Post by Vontre »

As you may have guessed from our recent Battle Pass announcement, we are going to be making some significant adjustments to the player economy soon (probably within the next few days). The goal of this pass is to bolster the free player experience, while making paid options more fairly priced and shifting to a $10 battle pass after the current pass is complete (keep in mind the current pass has been temporarily accelerated). When this patch launches, will we also add a limited time promo code that all players can use for some free goodies, as compensation for the disruption and as thanks for bearing with these changes during Early Access.

Here is a general overview of the changes coming:

- Card Points are becoming much more valuable. However, all CP sources and prices are going to be multiplied by 10 from their current value - the new baseline price for a card pack will be 1000 CP. We feel this is an important change to make so that the difference between Silver and CP is much more clear, and it's obvious which is more valuable.
- Most cosmetic options will now be purchasable with EITHER CP or Silver. We felt that introducing ways for players to spend their CP after they no longer desire card packs would be beneficial.
- Silver bundles below the $100 tier will give slightly more silver. However the price of a card pack for silver will increase, bringing our raw pack purchasing options more in line with typical CCGs.
- QUESTS are being greatly improved; players will generally be able to obtain more CP from daily quests, and quests can now give both CP and EXP rewards at the same time!
- The general balance of rewards for free players is being pushed away from battle pass EXP and more toward direct CP rewards. Generally, players should feel like they have more opportunities to make collection progress on a daily basis. Meanwhile, next season's battle pass will provide some small additional rewards for free players, and a substantial value for paying players at a $10 price point.

We look forward to deploying the full patch and changes soon and seeing player response. We realize these sorts of changes are disruptive, so we plan to have our economy set in stone before full launch and our mobile launches. We hope this latest effort will bring us very close to that goal! If you have any questions or concerns, please bring them in our community Discord server!
