Minor Mechanics Tweak

Post by Vontre »

Currently, in order to provide gold generating cards with more utility during the late game, any card that generates more than 10 gold for the player instead causes the player to draw a card. However it has recently come to our attention that this mechanic causes some unintended consequences in high level gameplay that negatively impact the meta. We have decided to simply remove the draw mechanic from gold generating cards altogether, effective immediately.

In addition, the max number of cards allowed in a hand at once has been increased from 12 to 18. This mechanic is primarily a technical limitation, and is not intended to impact gameplay.

Improved Quests and Other Things

Post by Vontre »

Hey folks, we are striving to make the card collection process more fun and fair for everyone involved over here, and we are excited to announce upcoming improvements to our systems that will be rolled out over the next few weeks:

QUESTS

- The new round of Daily Quests no longer requires a specific faction to complete. We felt it might be too hard for players to have to compete in the ranked ladder with an alt-faction deck, and allowing the player to use any faction would be much simpler.

- Instead of CP, quests will now award Quest Packs full of cards directly! Quest Packs currently contain between 4 and 5 random cards, and you will be able to earn two of these each day. There may be a way to upgrade these packs in the future, but more on that later...

The upgrades to the quest system have been rolled out immediately! As soon as your current quests are completed or abandoned you will receive the new quests. We will be evaluating CP costs in other areas of the game, such as tournaments and campaigns, shortly to account for this change.

CRAFTING

We will also be simplifying the crafting system in a few weeks in a way that is designed to coincide with the quest change. Shards are being removed from the game and replaced with CP, which will be the new universal crafting currency. CP will mostly be used for crafting cards, but may have some ancillary uses as well. However, the crafting price tables will look significantly different than they do currently, and some cards may be significantly more expensive to obtain through crafting. This change is designed to balance around the free cards gained from quest packs and free packs. This change will NOT be rolled out immediately, so you have a week or so to plan ahead. Existing shards will be exchanged for CP when the change hits, at a rate yet undetermined.

Stay tuned for more info on this weekend's tournament event and other improvements to our game systems!

Saturday Tournament

Post by Vontre »

For this Saturday tournament event we are going to try something a little different: tournament entry will be FREE, but tournament completion will award no prizes. The event reward for 12 games will still be in place.

Additionally, there will not be a tournament event on Wednesday next week. Instead, the tournament event AFTER this next one will last for 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) instead of one. That event may or may not have different entry fees and prizes and well.

Enjoy!

A Few Economy Updates

Post by Vontre »

Firstly, we are excited to announce we have just introduced a scaling mechanic for free and quest packs! Both the number of cards and drop rate of rare cards in free and quest packs now scales with your Badge Level! Increase your Badge Level to collect more free cards every day! Going along with this economy update is an upcoming increase in the difficulty of acquiring very specific cards. This weekend, we will be converting the crafting system from Shards to CP and rebalancing prices. When this change takes affect, all users will have their shard totals converted to an equivalent purchasing power in CP.

That is all!

Minor Tournament Adjustment

Post by Vontre »

In order to make the distinction between tournament events more clear and allow players to see the rewards, Tournaments that are not completed before the event ends will now be completed automatically and awards granted based on the number of wins.

Weekend Updates

Post by Vontre »

Greetings! We hope everyone is having a fun tournament weekend! The devs have been reviewing some of the balance points on the Card Point system and have made a few small upgrades:

1) It is now possible to craft cards again, but crafting prices have been completely changed. Additionally, we are gradually phasing out the ability to selectively sell cards. Players will have to collect more than maximum number of a card and use the cleanup button to receive Card Points in this way.

2) The number of Card Points awarded randomly by quests has been increased to a random range of 150-250. This should solidly give players enough CP to play two tournaments each weekend if they complete all of their quests.

That is all!

Expansion Announcement: Monster Island!

Post by Morrolan »

Hey everyone! We are excited to announce the next expansion for Cards and Castles: Return to Monster Island! Here are the details:

-Monster Island is due to release mid-July.

-The expansion will introduce many new mechanics such as Rally, Flying, and True Stealth, featuring at least 100 new cards!

-With the release of Monster Island, many cards from sets before Age of Dragons will be rotated out of Ranked play. This will allow us to balance new cards correctly and design a compelling meta-game without being hamstrung by interactions from legacy cards, and this way we will not have to constantly nerf or change older cards to fit with new designs.

-Replays are being added for high ranked matches! There will be a place to go in-game for everybody to watch battles between the top players in the game. Watch and learn top strategies from the best, OR work your way to the top and show off in front of the entire C&C community!

There will be an ongoing discussion on the News Forums at https://www.cardsandcastles.com/forum for anyone looking for more details.

See you on the battlefield!

Deck Building Update

Post by Vontre »

We are happy to announce that with the Monster Island update in July comes an important upgrade to our deck building mechanics. We are going to expand the flexibility and potential synergy of decks with a few key changes: first, decks will contain more cards! Monster Island decks will contain 40 cards each, and allow up to 3 of each card. Secondly, we are dropping all special restrictions on legendary cards: legendaries will be allowed 3 of a kind, and they will be searchable and craftable as well!

Although this change does not release for a few months, we are giving players the opportunity to start preparing for it right now! As of this moment, your card collection will allow you to create and keep up to 3 copies of each card, including legendary cards! This means you can start crafting legendaries right away! Please keep in mind when crafting that some legacy cards will be unavailable for ranked play after the Monster Island expansion, and will furthermore not be available to craft or pull after that release. More on this system is explained in our previous news post.
